SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIFORNIA – Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless is hosting the Changing Faces of Housing and Homelessness – Stories That Matter event at the Lake Tahoe Community College. Please join us along with our partners for this engaging community event. This year the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless will not only be highlighting the struggles of the chronically homeless in our community, but also the changing face of homelessness, the Working Homeless. The workers who help sustain our community are getting relentlessly priced out of it. Theirs increasingly is the face of homelessness in the United States: people whose paychecks are no longer enough to keep a roof over their heads. Please join us to hear their stories and view the photo exhibition. Together we can end homelessness on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe. Learn more about the event here: tahoehomeless.org/events

Our keynote speaker this year is Sasha Graham. Sasha is a native Richmond, CA resident. She is a Black mother and Undergraduate Ethnic Studies major at the University of California, Berkeley. Sasha serves as a State Board President of the Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment (ACCE). She is an activist for education, health, housing, and challenging the dominant narratives within mainstream culture. Sasha has helped to pass laws locally and statewide in California for tenant protections. She is not only an advocate for others but has experienced her own challenges with housing and homelessness. Sasha believes we must place those with lived experience in positions of political and legal power to propose and enact the justice our society needs. She plans to attend law school in 2020 and become a district attorney.

Other speakers include members of our community in South Lake Tahoe; people who are advocating for our neighbors through action and our neighbors who have experienced housing challenges.

This year’s event sponsor is Anthem Blue Cross. Our partner organizations are Tahoe Magic, Saint Joseph Community Land Trust, Tahoe Youth, and Family Services, Boys and Girls Club, Tahoe Arts Alliance, Family Resource Center, Tahoe Prosperity Center, Live Violence Free, Lake Tahoe Unified School District,
El Dorado County HUBS, El Dorado Community Foundation, and Advance.
